Question about FW 190D-9, "red 3"

Hello and thanks for the another great book!

Do you know the actual color used on repair patches in the left wing of "Red 3" at Liberec?
In profile pic you have used dark gray or black (wich is perfectly valid) but, comparing the color to the red primer in the landing gear leg it looks very similar to my eye. So could they have possibly used red primer on it as it looks like hastily done repair in field shop, or do you have more information about wich paints they could have used on repairs like this? I know red primer was usually used on fabrics only but from color pics i have seen it also used on small repair patches at other areas too.

Hello,
thanks for your interesting question. We have to say, the colour of reparation on a wing was "estimated" from our side. Unfortunatelly, we haven’t any direct proof about a shade of the colour.
Of course, it is possible, that the red base colour (oxid red) was used, specially, when other Fw 190D-9 of JG 6 is known with such reparations. I talk about the "blue 12" of course. On the other side, "blue 12" was from II. Gruppe and the unit operated from other airbase.
I looked again to the snap of "red 3". According my oppinion, the colour used for a reparation is a slightly lighter, then the "oxid red" on undercarriage cover and it is a lighter then colour of tactical marking. The most "similar" is the shade of dark colour on an engine cover.
But again, it isn’t possible to exclude a using of oxid red and I can consider it like possible.
