Focke-Wulf Fw 190s of Jagdgeschwader 6 in WWII Final Operations

WIFO - JG 6 - p.57

by: Daniel

Hello, I read at the bottom of page 57 that the fuel mixing stations were called WIFO. What does WIFO stand for?
All the best,
Dan.

Hello,
thank you for the question. The WIFO is an abbreviaton for the Wirtschaftliche Forschungsgesellschaft organization. The organization built hidden underground concrete fuel bunkers from 1934 year, where main strategic reserve of fuel for military aircraft engines were stored. It was a place, where was made a blending of the fuel too, to get concrete type of fuel - mainly B4 and C3.
More detail information about the problem you can find in a book of Calum E. Douglas, "The Secret Horsepower Race, Western Front Fighter Engine Development".
Best regards
Tomas Poruba
