Focke-Wulf Fw 190D camouflage & markings, Part III

Focke-Wulf Fw 190D
camouflage & markings, Part III

The third installment in the series reviews the entire theme of Fw 190D camouflaging, including newly discovered documents and recent research following the publication of the Part II in 2007. These are mostly summed up in the chapter on colours and their shades used in the Fw 90D production. We also discuss the production system and organization of companies involved in manufacturing of the aircraft. Understanding the system of production is essential for further insight into various camouflaging styles and their irregularities. Building on this knowledge we attempt at reconstructing camouflaging schemes applied by individual manufacturers.
Research outcomes are applied on description of particular aircraft, either as additional information or corrections. But such knowledge is primarily used to reconstruct the appearance of other Fw 190Ds with our schemes being based upon photographic evidence.
Appendixes focus on other partial topics related to camouflaging, markings, or Fw 190D history, such as:
  • “Stammkennzeichen” and other markings identified on the Fw 190D,
  • The Fw 190D at ground-attack units,
  • The story of W.Nr. 210003 in the light of historical documents,
  • The Fw 190D in the Prague Uprising,
  • And more…
